Day 1 - June 23rd We're on the Road Again?
Broke down bus and lunch at Lawrence Central High School. Arrived much later than planned at Mark Twain's Boyhood Home and the river side Plaza. Had Dinner on Riverboat.
The first day we were scheduled to leave Camp Belzer early in the morning only to break down before we got off of Boy Scout Road. Yet again, we suffered a bus malfunction. Evidently, the brakes were hanging up and would not let the bus go normally. We take out our sack lunches to eat lunch in the baseball stands behind Lawrence Central High School. A road mechanic stopped in and made a quick adjustment to fix the problem. Just before noon, the bus was working again and we were back on the road headed to Hannibal, Missouri. Later in the afternoon we stop in at the bus shop in Urbana, Illinois to exchange buses. Then around 5 pm we arrived at Hannibal river front to watch our Dinner Cruise River Boat arrive at the Landing. We took a little time to explore the Hannibal History Museum which was close by, then we boarded the "Mark Twain" for our dinner cruise. The crew was delighted with a full menu of food and a band named "The River Men" that played for us while we ate.
