Scout Band Rehearsals Now in TWO

Locations -- Indianapolis AND Anderson

The Crossroads of America Scout Band will kick off its new program year on Sunday, September 12 with rehearsals in TWO locations. This will enable more youth and adults who would like to be a part of this great 87-year tradition to have rehearsals more conveniently located to them.

The Indianapolis area rehearsals will take place at Warren Central High School (in the Orchestra Room) on 16th Street just east of Post Road. Rehearsals are from 2:00 - 3:45 PM each Sunday (except holidays).

The NEW location will be at Highland High School -- Band Room -- in Anderson, Indiana! Thanks to an alumnus of the band, Chris Taylor, the Scout Band will have this second site for rehearsals. Chris who is now the Band Director at Highland remembers how difficult it was for him to arrange transportation and get to rehearsals on a regular basis having to travel from Anderson to Indianapolis each Sunday. He contacted the band's board and offered his services and school to be the second location for weekly rehearsals. Anderson rehearsals will be on Sundays from 1:00 - 2:30 PM in the band room at Highland High School.

Occasionally there will be joint rehearsals at either Warren or Highland to prepare for concerts or other activities. The first joint rehearsal will be Sunday, October 3rd at Warren Central High School in preparation for the band's performance at the Race Into Scouting event at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on October 9th.

For more information about the Anderson rehearsal site, contact Chris Taylor at 765-683-0443 or email ctaylor@acsc.net For general information about the Scout Band contact Bill Schofield at 317-542-8057 or email bill@schofieldmarketing.com or the band's Website at www.scoutband.com

The band is looking forward to being able to broaden its rehearsal locations, and if this trial in Anderson is successful, sites in Terre Haute and Richmond will be planned in the future.

Calingpost.org Helps Band Reach its Members

If you are on the active attendance roster of the band you should have received a call from "Mr. Bill" around August 16th to highlight upcoming activities. We know that the majority of the folks were reached -- and some were not. This new cost effective way to "get the word out" to our membership will be used as needed to alert you to upcoming performances, cancellations of rehearsals due to weather, etc..

As the first message indicated (and we had some responses) -- if you would prefer being taken OFF of the band's mailing, calling and attendance list please let us know by calling Mr. Bill at 317-542-8057. If you have a preferred phone number that you would like the message to go to please let us know this as well. If you do not answer "live" it will go to your answering machine or voice mail. Again, as a result of the first message we have had some parents request that the message go to their cell phones so messages won't be erased before they get home. Just let us know what your preference is for your phone number.

If your church, troop or other organization signs up to use this service be sure and supply the "referring code" of 3175428057 -- this way the band gets 50 - 100 calls added to our call bank for use in the future. For more information go to callingpost.org -- it doesn't cost anything to sign up and there is nothing to download.

RCA Dome Season is Upon Us

The 2004 - 2005 RCA Dome season has started -- the two pre-season games are under our belt and we gearing for the sellout home opener on Sunday September 26th against the Green Bay Packers!

Our work force is being assisted with folks from Pack and Troop 88 -- they are providing at least five workers for every event and the band needs to come up with the other 10 -12 that are needed. Contact Shirley Wiker at 487-9412 if you would like to help out. Season dates are available at rehearsals so you can cross check your schedule to see when you might be available.

Menu has changed a little this year as well as pricing and it has made the operations a little smoother for everyone! We are also providing manpower for three kiosks at the ATA North Club -- only one person works the kiosk and collects money and sells the drinks as they come through the line.

 Pie Sales for Thanksgiving

The band will be conducting its annual Pie Sales in time for Thanksgiving feasts! Pie sheets will be available at the rehearsal on October 17. Turn in your pie sheets on Sunday, November 14. Pies will be available for pick up on Saturday, November 20. All monies should be turned in by Sunday, December 5th at rehearsal.

The fruit pies (apple - Dutch apple - cherry - peach and blueberry) and creme pies (chocolate, coconut) sell for $8.00 each -- the pecan pies sell for $10.00.

These are fresh pies and have been big sellers in the past. If you have any questions contact Shirley Wiker at 487-9412 or Sylvia Schofield at 542-8057.

Dixieland Band Rehearsals and Crew 559 Meetings

The Dixieland Band will rehearse ONLY at Warren Central High School. To keep things easy to remember -- we will keep to the first Sunday of the month for Dixieland Rehearsals. Those that are interested in playing the Dixieland music -- the first rehearsal will be Sunday, October 3rd at 1:00 PM at Warren Central High School. Crew 559 meetings will also take place on the first Sunday of each month -- after Dixieland Band rehearsal. First Crew meeting -- October 3rd!

 2004 Tour Scrubbed -- Rescheduled for 2005

Due to several cancellations with only 7 days to departure -- the 2004 Texas Tour was canceled. WE DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN! We understand things come up at the last minute, but if you sign up to go on tour we expect you to be active, make payments as you can so we know you have a "commitment" and when the time comes be ready to depart for an adventure!

Since all the plans were made, and reservations confirmed (and then canceled) we are planning 2005 to be the Texas Tour! Applications will be available starting with rehearsal on September 12th. If you would like to go -- please complete an application and turn it in so we will have a better idea on how many to prepare for.

Dates for the tour will be Sunday, June 12 -- Sunday, June 19. Cost will be $600.00 per person.

Those that have a personal account established with the band (dome work, pie sales, etc.) can have their deposit withdrawn from that account. If you would like to establish an account, include the deposit of $50.00 with your application.

Itinerary for the tour at this point will be the same as was planned for 2004 (there may be some modifications along the way). First Day will take us to Memphis, Tennessee where we will perform at the Graceland Visitor Center and then tour Elvis's home - Graceland. Day two takes us into the Fort Worth Texas area where we will be for the next several days -- we'll take in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards, JFK Memorial and Texas Book Depository, Reunion Tower, National Scouting Museum where a concert for the National Staff will be performed. Day Four takes us to the Space Center at Houston where we will have a complete tour and perform a concert. Then on to Moody Gardens in Galveston Texas. Day 6 will see us for a brief time on the beach at Galveston then on to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to visit and perform at the USS Kidd and visit the old and new State Capitol Buildings. Day 7 Takes us to our friends at the Central Alabama Council in Birmingham and then Day 8 brings us back Home to Indiana.

All you need to do to be a part of this great experience is complete an application and make a deposit to hold your place for the 2005 Texas Tour!

 Band to Perform October 9

Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The band has been asked to perform at the council-wide Race Into Scouting event to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 9th.

As of this writing we are not sure the exact location of the performance. As those details are established we will get the word out at rehearsals. We do know that they would like us to perform around 10:15 AM for the opening ceremonies. Report to the track by 9:30 AM so we can get you uniformed and set up. We will then play for approximately an hour -- if there are enough that can stay we might play a second concert a little after 12 noon.

In preparation for this concert a joint rehearsal will be held Sunday, October 3rd at 2:00 PM at Warren Central High School.
