HUGSBAA Remembers a Friend

James Allen Anthony, 78 of Noblesville, Indiana died Thursday, April 23, 1998. Jim was active with the Boy Scout Band from 1957 to 1975. He held the positions of Assistant Director and Band Manager under Harvey Gill, as well as having been active with Explorer Post 28 at Meadlawn Christian Church. He was an accomplished musician on the piano and organ. Jim was an active member of HUGSBAA and had recently been attending Scout Band practices and concerts.

Jim was a decorated World War II and Korean Conflict veteran. He later retired from Indiana Bell.

Many of us knew, respected and admired Jim. We would agree with the message on the inside cover of the remembrance notice from the funeral home.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered "Come to me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away:
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

We will all miss the wonderful man we were lucky enough to call a friend.

Letter from the President

After two Alumni Dinners of getting reacquainted, it is time to make some changes. Starting at the next dinner, May 17th, the officers will update the members on the status of the organization and field any questions or concerns. We will also discuss what projects of the Scout Band HUGSBAA wants to assist with funding.

I am happy to announce that Doug Whitcomb agreed to serve as HUGSBAA's Vice President. His primary responsibility is to locate former members of the Scout Band. Doug joined the Scout Band when he was 11 years old as a French horn player and later added playing the trumpet and serving as the drum major to his repertoire.

I look forward to hearing from you or seeing you at the next dinner.

A New Truck

The Scout Band purchased a new truck to replace the old trailer that the band bought in the 70's. The acquisition was made possible through the generosity of Allison/Rolls Royce and Bud Wolf Chevrolet. The band wants to build shelves for the truck. If anyone enjoys carpentry or has access to wood, please contact Debbie Miller.

Alumni Dinners

The next dinner is Sunday, May 17th at 6:00pm at ChiChi's at I-465 and Washington Street on the eastside. Your family is welcome to join us. Please RSVP to Debbie Miller at 545-0445.

The Alumni will join the Scout Band at its annual picnic at Camp Belzer on August 23rd. More information will follow.

On the third day, the band will visit Brainerd, MN (home of Paul Bunyon and Babe) and spend the night in Bismarck, North Dakota. From there the band will travel through the Badlands to get to Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, which will be the base for three nights. The band will tour Wind Cave National Park, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower National Park in Wyoming before heading to Iowa. The next day will include a day of fun in Omaha, Nebraska and a night at Offutt AFB. The band wilt spend nights in Topeka, KS and in Loose Creek, MO before returning home. Nine concerts are currently planned with the hopes of two more being added.

If you live in any of the areas and want to see the band, contact any of the officers to get more details.

How Can You Help

The Alumni Association is still looking for help. We need help locating band's former members and friends inputting the information from rosters. There are 425 people listed our database, but most of the addresses and telephone numbers are incorrect we need to update our lists. If you any ideas to increase participation membership in HUGSBAA, please them on to any officer.
